PREP FOOTBALL Watterson reaches Div. III state final; Smithville wins



Marion Pleasant reached its second straight Division V state title game.

DAYTON -- Dan DeLucia threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, and the Columbus Watterson defense stuffed Germantown Valley View for a 40-14 victory in a Division III state semifinal Saturday night.
Watterson (9-4) recovered two fumbles and intercepted three passes while advancing to its third championship game since 1999. The Eagles lost in the Division II finals in 1999 and last season.
DeLucia hit Brian Conrad for a 42-yard TD pass on Watterson's first possession. After the Spartans (13-1) went three-and-out, the Eagles marched 58 yards in nine plays and scored on a 17-yard TD pass from DeLucia to Corey Wilson. DeLucia also scored on a 3-yard run.
Valley View quarterback Teddy Buehner had an 8-yard touchdown run.
Smithville 27,Delphos St. John's 20
MANSFIELD -- Eric Beichler rushed for 122 yards and scored three touchdowns as Smithville advanced to its first Division V state final.
Beichler scored on a 63-yard touchdown run, caught a 29-yard touchdown pass, returned a fumble 16-yards for a touchdown, and had an interception to set up another touchdown.
Beichler returned an interception 15 yards to St. John's 18-yard line set up Kyle Kauffman's 17-yard touchdown run that gave the Smithies (14-0) a 21-to-20 lead with 4:14 left in the third.
Jesse Kill threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Don Haggard and Delphos took a 20-14 lead on a 32-yard run by Luke Ralson with 6:35 in the third.
Smithfield answered with touchdown runs by Kauffman and Beichler.
Smithfield stopped the Bluejays (10-4) inside their 10-yard line twice in the second half.
Marion Pleasant 34, Amanda-Clearcreek 13
LEWIS CENTER -- Jake Bennett rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns and Trevor Harris threw three touchdown passes as Marion Pleasant reached its second straight Division V state title game.
Pleasant (14-0), which fell to Bedford Chanel 44-27 in the 2001 championship game, won by doing something unexpected -- score.
Amanda (11-3) came in allowing only 5.5 points per game and Pleasant 6.6. But it was 28-13 Marion Pleasant at halftime.
Bennett scored on a 63-yard run, and Harris threw touchdown passes of 1 and 15 yards to Abe Sparling and 15 yards to Jason Edler.
Amanda scored on David Conley's 42-yard TD run in the first quarter and Conley's 58-yard TD pass to Jayson Marshall in the second.
