MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL Horizon teams record first victories



Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wright State and Detroit Mercery all posted wins.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Matt Rohde scored 16 points as Wisconsin-Green Bay beat Centenary 68-48 Saturday in the consolation round of the BP Top of the World Classic.
Aaron Jessup added 13 points and nine rebounds for Wisconsin-Green Bay (1-1). DeMario Hooper had 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting for Centenary (0-2).
Centenary scored off the opening tip but then went 10 minutes without a field goal as the Phoenix built a 17-4 lead. Rohde's four-point play with 4 minutes left in the first half pushed the lead to 33-12 and Centenary never got closer than 18.
Wisconsin-Green Bay shot 52 percent in the first half.
Centenary finished with just one assist. The Gents hit just one of 13 attempts from 3-point territory and their shooting woes extended to the free-throw line, where they shot 9-for-18.
Wright State 78, Akron 75
DAYTON -- Vernard Hollins scored 30 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Seth Doliboa added 20 points as Wright State beat Akron.
Hollins made 12 of 19 from the field and Doliboa hit 8 of 13 for the Raiders (1-0).
Derrick Tarver scored 24 points and Darryl Peterson added 21 for the Zips (0-1).
Wright State shot 54 percent from the field and hit half of its 12 3-point shots while Akron shot 57 percent and hit 4-of-11 3-pointers.
Tyson Freeman added 10 points for the Raiders and John Hollingsworth scored 15 for Akron.
Wright State led 35-34 at the half.
W. Michigan 73, UC Irvine 62
NORMAN, Okla. -- Mike Williams scored 25 points, five of them in an 11-0 run that helped carry Western Michigan over Cal-Irvine in the consolation game of the Sooner Invitational.
The Broncos (1-1) only led 48-47 with just under 12 minutes remaining. Their run, which included four points from Anthony Kann, pushed the lead to 11 with 7:20 left and Cal-Irvine (0-2) didn't threaten after that.
Kann and Robby Collum scored 14 each for Western Michigan.
Mike Hood scored 11 for the Anteaters,who played much of the game without 7-footer Adam Parada. Parada, who had scored 19 against No. 7 Oklahoma on Friday night, had three first-half fouls, got his fourth early in the second half and fouled out with 7:22 to play. He wound up with six points in 14 minutes.
Detroit Mercy 75, Bowling Green 61
DETROIT -- Willie Green scored 22 points and Terrell Riggs added 20 to lead Detroit Mercy over Bowling Green in the season opener for both teams.
Detroit Mercy, of the Horizon League, scored the first nine points of the game and was 52.4 percent from the field, compared to the Mid-American Conference Falcons' 35.1 shooting percentage.
John Reimold led Bowling Green with 14 points, Cory Ryan had 12 and Josh Almanson added 10.
At halftime, Detroit Mercy led 35-24, behind Riggs' 13 first-half points. Bowling Green had the deficit to six, but Riggs scored nine consecutive points to thwart the Falcons' charge.
Bowling Green trailed by as much as 18 in the second half, but used a 17-5 run -- including three consecutive three-pointers from Reimold and Ryan -- to close to 54-48.
The victory extended the Titans' winning streak against non-conference opponents at home to 29.
