Pharmacy degree
Michele D. Truman, daughter of David and Mary Jo Truman of Boardman, graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C., with a doctorate of pharmacy degree.
She is a graduate of Boardman High School and completed her pre-pharmacy courses at Youngstown State University.
Truman has accepted a position with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as a staff pharmacist.
English professor
Linda J. Rice of Howland has completed her doctor of philosophy degree in curriculum and instruction at Kent State University and has accepted a teaching position as assistant professor of English at Ohio University, Athens.
While working on her doctorate since 1995, Rice taught junior English at Lakeview High School in Cortland. She will be presenting her doctoral research at the National Council of Teachers of English Conference in Atlanta this month.
A National Board Certified teacher in 2000, Rice authored chapters in three books this year.
She is a 1988 graduate of Howland High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Grove City College in 1992 and her master's degree in education from Westminster College in 1995. She is a two-time recipient of the A+ Teacher Award and was named Outstanding Language Arts Educator by the Ohio Council of Teachers of English Language Arts in 1998.
LAWYERS
New attorney
Jeffrey A. Kurz of Poland has passed the Ohio State Bar Examination and was sworn in as an attorney Monday in Columbus.
Atty. Kurz is a 1995 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He graduated summa cum laude from Kent State University in 1999, and in May of this year, graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a law degree and master's degree in business administration.
He is the son of Fred and Celeste Kurz, Timberbrooke Trail, Poland.
HONORS
Roth feted
Judy Roth of Youngstown has received the Ohio Counseling Association's Charles "Chuck" Weaver Award for her long and distinguished service to the counseling profession.
She received the award earlier this month at the annual All Ohio Counselors Conference in Columbus.
Roth is a licensed professional clinical counselor, a certified chemical dependency counselor, and a certified total care psychological and counseling services counselor.
The OCA is the professional organization for school and mental health agency counselors and graduate counseling students.
