DIVISION II PLAYOFFS Indiana (Pa.) survives opening round, 27-23



Grand Valley State is next week's opponent following the win over Saginaw Valley State.
INDIANA, Pa. -- Brian Eyerman threw for 377 yards and two touchdowns during a second-half comeback as Indiana, Pa. shook off three player suspensions and beat Saginaw Valley State 27-23 in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Indiana (11-1) entered the game ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II poll and will play host to Grand Valley State next Saturday. Grand Valley beat C.W. Post 62-13 in another first-round game Saturday.
Saginaw Valley State (9-3) was No. 14 in Division II play, but couldn't muster its usual offense against Indiana who were without two defensive starters. End Andrew Battle and tackle Craig Prince were suspended by the team for a postgame altercation against Slippery Rock last week. Reserve wide receiver Ben Shaffer also was suspended.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Curt Anes tied a playoff record with six touchdown passes.
Anes threw four of his TD passes to David Kircus. The four TDs for Kircus also tied a playoff record.
N. Colorado 49, Cent. Missouri 28
GREELEY, Colo. -- Adam Matthews ran for a school-record 253 yards and two touchdowns as Northern Colorado scored 42 unanswered points.
Matthews also added a 51-yard touchdown reception as he broke the record of 225 yards by Tyler Hawkins and became the school's single-season rushing leader with 1,256 yards.
Texas A & amp;M-Kingsville 58,Nebraska-Kearney 40
KEARNEY, Neb. -- Larry Williams ran for 216 yards and four touchdowns to lead Texas A & amp;M-Kingsvill.
UC Davis 24, Cent. Washington 6
ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- UC Davis scored with a trick play on its first possession and went on to defeat Central Washington.
UC Davis (9-2) opened the game with a 64-yard drive, capped with a 34-yard pass from receiver Billy Zeier to Kevin Freeman for a touchdown.
NW Mo. St. 45, Minn.-Duluth 41
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Geromy Scaggs scored on a 3-yard run with 31 seconds remaining to lift Northwest Missouri State.
Ricky Fritz's fourth touchdown pass of the day -- a 66-yarder to Tim Battaglia with 3:02 remaining -- put the Bulldogs (11-1) ahead 41-38.
But Northwest Missouri State (12-0) drove 61 yards on six plays for the game-winning score.
Carson-Newman 40,Fayetteville St. 27
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Damon Boone ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns to lead Carson-Newman.
Carson-Newman (12-0) used an 85-yard blocked field goal return for a touchdown by Deonte Bolden and a 38-yard interception return for a score by Loman Dorsey to break a 14-14 tie late in the second quarter.
Valdosta St. 24, Catawba 7
VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Buster Faulkner threw two first-half scoring passes to Reggie Mosley as Valdosta State built a 21-0 lead.
