Bell foundry visits

Bell foundry visits
COLUMBUS -- The world's only foundry on wheels, which will cast Ohio bicentennial bells throughout the state, will visit Trumbull, Columbiana and Mahoning counties next summer.
The dates are June 24-25 at Cafaro Field in Niles, July 30-31 at the Columbiana County Fair in Lisbon and Aug. 27-28 at the Canfield Fair. During the seven-month statewide tour, a 2-foot-high, 250-pound bell will be cast, dedicated, presented to each county and rung in each location, the Ohio Bicentennial Commission said.
The two-day, on-location process in each county includes heating the furnace to more than 2,000 degrees, pouring molten bronze into a mold, letting it cool overnight, breaking the mold, and cleaning and polishing the bell in public view. The public will be invited to ring the bells.
