LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Nick Collison scored 25 points and Keith Langford added a career-high 24 as No. 2 Kansas romped past North Carolina-Greensboro 105-66 Friday night in the second round of the Preseason NIT.
The Jayhawks (2-0) advanced to the semifinals in New York, where they will play North Carolina, the alma mater of Kansas coach Roy Williams and the school that tried to hire him two years ago.
After Williams agonized for a week and then turned the Tar Heels down, the job went to Matt Doherty, a former assistant coach for Williams at Kansas.
Kirk Hinrich, after a slow start, had 23 points and seven rebounds for Kansas. Wayne Simien had 18 points and 10 rebounds, giving him two double-doubles in two starts for the Jayhawks.
Collison, who had eight rebounds, went to the bench with about six minutes against the thoroughly outmanned Spartans.
No. 4 Alabama 82, Alabama St. 56
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Mo Williams scored 20 points and Terrance Meade added 17 as No. 4 Alabama won its 20th straight home game with a victory over Alabama State.
The Crimson Tide (2-0), with its highest ranking in 25 years, led by 36 points late but played mostly reserves in the second half against the Hornets (0-3).
Erwin Dudley had 12 points and eight rebounds as 10 players scored for the Tide. Kenny Walker added eight points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes as Alabama outrebounded Alabama State 38-29
No. 7 Oklahoma 87, UC Irvine 65
NORMAN, Okla. -- Ebi Ere scored 14 points, and No. 7 Oklahoma broke the game open with a 17-1 second-half run to beat Cal-Irvine in the first round of the Sooner Invitational.
Hollis Price and Quannas White each scored 13 for the Sooners (1-1), who will play Princeton in the title game Saturday. Princeton beat Western Michigan 62-59.
Adam Parada had 19 points for Cal-Irvine (0-1), including seven straight during a 41/2-minute stretch in which the Anteaters held Oklahoma to one basket and cut the lead to 58-51 with 9:27 left.
No. 16 Marquette 64, Coppin St. 46
MILWAUKEE -- Dwyane Wade scored 24 points and Robert Jackson added 13 as No. 16 Marquette defeated Coppin State in the Pepsi Blue and Gold Classic.
Marquette (2-0) will play Texas-San Antonio in today's championship, while Coppin State (0-1) will play Idaho State in the consolation game. Texas-San Antonio beat Idaho State 76-71 in overtime.
Jimmy Boykin led Coppin with 18 points, but he had all of them in the first half, making all seven of his shots.
No. 20 Missouri 72, American 57
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Ricky Clemons scored 25 points and Rickey Paulding added 19 as No. 20 Missouri defeated American in the season opener for both teams.
Clemons, a transfer from the College of Southern Idaho, also had four assists and five rebounds in his debut as Missouri's point guard. Paulding, a junior, made eight of 16 shots but didn't score in the second half until 1:09 remained.
Steven Miles led American with 12 points and Jernavis Draughn added 10.
