Ohio Department of Education will honor 5 area educators



COLUMBUS -- Several local teachers are among nearly 100 educators statewide who are being honored for their creativity and effectiveness in the classroom.
The honors will be given Sunday by the Ohio Department of Education.
Among the teachers to be recognized in the event titled "Celebrate Teaching: A Star-Spangled Profession" are those who have received ODE minigrants.
Presenting the awards are Susan Tave Zelman, superintendent of public instruction, members of the state board of education and staff from the governor's office.
The local teachers being honored, their minigrant proposals and amounts are:
UKathleen Hill, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, "Bridges to Early Learning," $2,000.
UConnie Offenburg, East Palestine Elementary School, "EPES School Store," $2,000.
UMarlo Moransky, Frank Ohl Middle School, Austintown, "Write On Publishing Co.," $1,200.
UEdward Miner, Girard High School, "Mahoning River Project," $1,500.
ULisa Gysegem, Howland Glen Elementary School, "Real Life Readers," $2,000.
