GIRLS BASKETBALL Underclassmen lead Rayen over Glenville, 55-49



Springfield dominated Campbell behind Talley Felger's 21 points.
CLEVELAND -- Taneisha Holland had 14 points and Taryn Perkins and Ashley Adams 12 apiece as the Rayen High girls basketball team won its season opener over Cleveland Glenville, 55-49, Friday night.
With senior guard/forward Erica Wilson on the bench after early foul trouble, Glenville (0-1) took the lead early in the fourth period. However, Rayen regained the lead and held on until the end.
Juniors Karen Perkins and Ashley Myers had 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively, but they also helped Rayen stay the course during Wilson's absence.
Rayen yanked down 36 rebounds and had 17 steals with Holland, a sophomore guard, credited with eight of those.
"The underclassmen helped with their solid defense and rebounding," coach Holly Seimetz said of Perkins and Myers.
Deanna Jones had a game-high 22 points for Glenville.
Rayen plays at Ursuline today at 6:30 p.m.
Springfield 76, Campbell 15
CAMPBELL -- Senior post player Talley Felger had 21 points, while sophomore guard/forward Lindsay Johnson added 18 as Springfield Local dominated Campbell Memorial.
Felger, a third-year starter, also had six steals for the Tigers. Katie Houk led the winners with 13 rebounds, while Johnson hauled in eight more caroms.
Mineral Ridge 49, Maplewood 34
MINERAL RIDGE -- Dariana Casado, a 5-10 senior forward, had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Mineral Ridge over Maplewood.
Ridge trailed after one quarter, 10-8, before out-scoring the Rockets, 14-8, in the second quarter.
Stephanie Schwartz led Maplewood with 12 points, while Schwartz and Brittney Bolinger had six rebounds apiece. The Rockets out-rebounded Ridge, 35-31.
Western Reserve 50, Lordstown 12
LORDSTOWN -- Jen White scored 11 points and Anna Marie Ricciardi had 10 more for the Blue Devils.
Liz Anderson scored six points for Lordstown, which trailed 34-4 at the break.
Py Valley 55, Lakeview 36
ANDOVER -- Nikki Hazlett hit for 17 points and Michelle Lauten scored 11 more for the Lakers.
The Bulldogs led 19-17 at the break.
Christina Martin collected 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
