CAMPUS NOTES In the spotlight



ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
Christopher Kondas of Canfield, a middle-school education major, is a sophomore class representative on the university's Student Senate. The group represents the student body to the university president and board of trustees. Members are elected by the student body and must be full-time students who maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
Paul Carmany of New Middletown and Keona Padgett of Cortland are members of the Academic Honors Program at the university. To be admitted to the program, first-year students must have a high school grade point average of 3.5 or higher and an ACT score of 25 or higher or an SAT score of 1100 or higher. To continue in the program, they must maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA. Carmany is a mathematics major; Padgett is a political science major.
Renee Robertson of Hubbard, an early-childhood education major, is a member of the education honorary Kappa Delta Pi. Membership requires a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and other academic achievements.
DENISON UNIVERSITY
Sophomore theater performance major Elena Perantoni of Canfield was a member of the female chorus in the university's comedy production of Aristophanes' "Lysistrata," transferred from ancient Greece to 1938 New York City. Perantoni is a 2001 graduate of Canfield High School.
DePAUL UNIVERSITY
Michael Alexander Elias of Canfield has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored at a campus ceremony this fall. The society is a selective, national, nonprofit honors organization that recognizes first- and second-year undergraduate students who excel academically. Elias is a 2001 graduate of Canfield High School.
MUSKINGUM COLLEGE
Renee Marie Shonk of Niles is a member of the Phi Sigma Iota National Honorary. The society promotes the study of foreign languages and cultures in order to promote world peace through an understanding of people of all nations.
