'Martin Berger Day'
YOUNGSTOWN -- In honor of Dr. Martin Berger's 30 years as host of the Saturday night jazz program "Now's the Time" on WYSU-FM, Mayor George McKelvey issued a proclamation declaring Monday as "Martin Berger Day." WYSU is honoring Berger by sponsoring the Jazz Ensemble concert at 8 p.m. Monday at Youngstown State University's Kilcawley Center in the Chestnut Room. The concert is free.
Berger credits Dr. Charles Darling, a colleague in the history department and host of folk festival on WYSU-FM, for encouraging him to pursue his passion for jazz and for helping to record his first radio show in 1969.
WYSU-FM/Classical 88.5 is a fine-arts public radio station.
