Larry Johnson in running for award



DALLAS (AP) -- Colorado's Chris Brown, the nation's leading rusher, is one of eight semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Brown has 1,744 yards rushing and is averaging 158.5 yards a game for the 16th-ranked Buffaloes, the Big 12 North division champions.
Penn State's Larry Johnson (157.8 yards a game) and Northern Illinois' Michael Turner (154.7) also are semifinalists. The others are Quentin Griffin, Oklahoma; Avon Cobourne, West Virginia; Willis McGahee, Miami; Artose Pinner, Kentucky; and Cecil Sapp, Colorado State.
A selection committee of 135 voters will determine three finalists, who will be named Dec. 2. The winner will be announced Dec. 12 as part of ESPN's college football awards show.
