Police probe 2 burglaries in Sharon

SHARON, Pa. -- Police are investigating a pair of residential burglaries, one in which the thief was chased out of a bedroom by the homeowner.
Police said a resident in the 100 block of Stambaugh Avenue was awakened by a noise around 2:45 a.m. Sunday and saw a man in his bedroom going through his pants pockets.
He yelled and the man fled, taking the victim's wallet and checkbook.
Police said those items, minus some cash that had been in the wallet, were found in nearby shrubbery a short time later.
The thief was described as a white man with a goatee. He wore a dark stocking cap and a brown jacket. Police said they believe he entered the house through an unlocked window.
An unlocked window also might have been the point of entry in a burglary at an apartment in the 500 block of Ormond Avenue sometime Monday.
The occupant came home around 7 p.m. to find the apartment ransacked and some videos and CDs missing. An obscene word had been spray-painted on a wall, police said.
