CAMPBELL -- Luis Lafaye, 18, of Tremble Avenue was sentenced to 180 days in jail on an assault charge, 90 days for resisting arrest, and 60 days for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested Lafaye in July after he held a knife to his brother's head and stabbed him in the hand. At the time, Lafaye's mother and 13-year-old sister told police he had been threatening them and flashing a knife for several days.
Lafaye began serving his jail time Nov. 8, the day he was sentenced. His sentences run concurrently. Fines were suspended because of his indigence.
YWCA girls program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Young Women's Christian Association is sponsoring a free program for girls 12 to 15 every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave.
The YWTeens/TechGYRLS program explores many of the challenges and opportunities faced by girls today through recreational trips, crafts and hands-on activities in a clublike atmosphere.
The TechGYRLS component of the program includes learning about robotics, computers and careers in technology. There is no charge for the program.

Patrols honored
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has honored sheriff's department marine patrols in Mahoning and Trumbull counties for exceptional public service. The awards were announced Wednesday.
Statewide, 27 law enforcement agencies were recognized for their commitment to marine safety.
BB shots hit truck
YOUNGSTOWN -- A few shots fired from a BB gun in the 60 block of Williamson Avenue struck a Vindicator truck Wednesday afternoon just as the driver was closing the overhead door.
A police investigation led to a 16-year-old boy in the neighborhood who said he had been shooting at cans in his back yard, not at the truck. No damage or injury was reported.
Police seized two BB guns as evidence. No charges will be filed.
Attempted break-in
YOUNGSTOWN -- Someone made an unsuccessful attempt to enter U.S. Trading at 1315 Poland Ave. just before 3 a.m. today. Police found a gate open and window broken.
Bolt cutters were found on a chair near an exit door and there were marks on the padlock. Police took the bolt cutters as evidence.
Theft arraignment set
BOARDMAN -- Dustin R. Hawthorne, 19, of Redtail Hawk Drive will be arraigned Monday in Boardman area court on misdemeanor theft charges.
Police say Hawthorne, an employee of the Ice Zone, took money from gym bags and lockers at the Ice Zone. A series of thefts at the business have been reported over the past several weeks.
Reports do not say how many of the thefts are being attributed to Hawthorne.
TV insides stolen
ELLSWORTH -- A Salem-Warren Road woman has reported the insides of two large TVs stolen.
She told the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday that a repairman returned the insides on May 18 and took them again Sept. 13 because they needed to be repaired again. The woman hasn't heard from the repairman since Sept. 13.
Thanksgiving dinner
YOUNGSTOWN -- Price Memorial AME Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave., will have its free community Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Friday.
Community guest day
YOUNGSTOWN -- Temple Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church will have its biannual community guest day Saturday with a prayer service at 8:30 a.m., Sabbath school program at 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m.
Dinner will be served after the services.
