GM to revamp plant
DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. plans to invest $80 million to renovate a metal casting plant to build engine blocks for an aluminum V-8 engine beginning in 2006.
The move will save 191 jobs at the Saginaw plant, plant manager Rick Sutton told The Detroit News. The plant has cut operating costs by $75 million since 1999 and received a 20-year tax abatement, Sutton said. It employs about 2,400 workers.
