V & amp;M Star
Formerly known as North Star Steel, V & amp;M Star was renamed when new owners took over in July. Here are some facts about the Youngstown operation:
Ownership: Vallourec, a French tube maker (80 percent) and Sumitomo Corp. of America (20 percent.)
Locations: Martin Luther King Boulevard in Youngstown, also a facility in Houston.
Work Force: 460 employees (330 hourly, 130 salaried); 140 subcontractors.
Product: Seamless steel tubes, primarily for the oil and gas industries.
Sales: $280 million
Production volume: 330,000 metric tons
Capital improvements: $4 million approved for 2002; $13 million proposed for 2003.
