NEW CASTLE Man with body piercings guilty of assault

A judge dismissed kidnapping charges pending against the defendant.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A city man who once attempted to break the world body piercing record was found guilty of attempted rape and other charges.
Judge J. Craig Cox of Lawrence County Common Pleas Court also found Joseph W. Funkhouser, 25, of East Laurel Avenue guilty of robbery of a motor vehicle, false imprisonment, indecent assault and simple assault.
Jurors returned their verdict Friday. A sentencing date has not been set.
Judge Cox had dismissed two counts of kidnapping before the two-day trial ended last week.
Funkhouser was represented by the Lawrence County Public Defender's Office.
Court documents say a woman vacuuming her car at a Butler Avenue carwash was grabbed from behind and forced into the car at 7 a.m. July 7, 2001.
She told police the man drove her car behind the carwash and began attacking her.
The woman fought back, eventually escaping, but the man drove off in her car, court records add.
Police said they recognized her attacker after she described his clothing and numerous body piercings.
Police had arrested Funkhouser on a public drunkenness charge earlier that morning.
He was arrested again a few days later in a Shenango Township mobile home park on the attempted rape charges.
Funkhouser had his body pierced 162 times in an effort to break the world record.
