Mount Unionreceives bye
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College (10-0), the defending NCAA Division III national football champion, drew a bye for the first round of this years playoffs.
On. Nov. 30, the Purple Raiders will play host to the winner of the Alma (Mich.)-Wheaton (Ill.) game. Kickoff at Mount Union Stadium will be at noon.
Ticket telephone lines will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at (330) 821-6759. Season ticket holders and football parents only should call today. Others may call the same number beginning on Tuesday.
Tickets will cost $9 for covered stands and the press box reserved section and $8 for general reserved seats.
Fight night
CHESTER, W.Va. -- Olympic hopeful Verquan Kimbrough of Aliquippa, Pa. will take on John Swanson of Youngstown in a four-round bout at Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort on Nov. 27.
The amateur, professional show in Mountaineer's Grande Ballroom will include nine fights, seven of them pro bouts.

* DANA POINT, Calif. -- Rich Beem and Peter Leonard defeated defending champions Fred Couples and Mark Calcavecchia 2 and 1 to win the PGA Tour portion of the Hyundai Team Matches.

TOKYO -- The major leaguers defeated the Japanese stars 4-2, winning for the fourth consecutive time after three straight losses to capture the seven-game exhibition series. The major leaguers have not lost an all-star tour of Japan since 1990, and this was their fifth straight series win.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- The America's Cup campaigns of France's Le Defi and Britain's GBR Challenge ended when both boats were beaten by 4-1 margins in best-of-seven challenger quarterfinals.
New York's Stars & amp; Stripes, which beat GBR by 1 minute, 42 seconds, and Sweden's Victory Challenge, which beat Le Defi by 2:34, progress to quarterfinal repechages starting Saturday.
