Eagle award
Adam Michael Day, 17, son of Robert C. and Karen A. Day of Berlin Center, recently received his Eagle Scout Award at a court of honor at Camp Stambaugh.
A member of Cub Scout Pack 114 from 1992-96, Adam joined Troop 46 in 1996. In Troop 46, he has served as patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster and librarian. His scoutmaster is Eric Grabman.
He has earned 27 merit badges and recently earned the Bronze Palm. As a Cub Scout, he earned the Arrow of Light and the Parvuli Dei Award. Adam participated in a two-week wilderness trek the summer of 2000 at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Wapashuwi Lodge 56.
For the past three years, Adam has been a member of the Junior Fair Board at the Canfield Fair representing the Boy Scouts. At the 2002 Canfield Fair, he won Outstanding Youth as the Boy Scout representative.
A 10-year member of the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club, Adam has represented Mahoning County at the Ohio State Fair with a variety of projects. At the 4-H National Engineering Science and Leadership Competition, he received a first place in Team Aerospace in 1999, and a third place in Bicycles in 2001. He is a 4-H state ambassador and was 4-H king at the 2002 Canfield Fair.
He is a senior at Western Reserve High School, where he is a three-letter winner in cross country and track. He also is a member of the school's National Honor Society, student council and drama and ski clubs.
STATE PATROL
2 troopers honored
Two Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers with Trumbull County ties were recently honored with the ACE Award, which is given by the patrol for excellence in auto larceny enforcement. The troopers are Gregory T. Allen of the patrol's Warren Post and Joseph M. Costarella of the Medina Post.
This year, the two troopers each recovered five stolen vehicles and arrested suspects for those thefts.
Allen began his patrol career in April 1998. He received his commission October 1998 and was assigned to the Cambridge Post. He transferred to the Warren Post in July 1999. This year, he also received a Criminal Patrol Award.
A Lordstown native, Allen was a 1987 graduate of Lordstown High School, and earned an associate degree in computer programming from Youngstown State University in 1996. In 2001, he received his bachelor's degree in management from Malone College.
He lives in Lordstown with his wife, Tracie, and their two children.
Costarella joined the patrol in October 1998 and received his commission in April 1999, when he was assigned to the Medina Post.
A native of Champion, Costarella graduated from Champion High School in 1992, and in 1996 received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Youngstown State University.
He lives in Medina with his wife, Sherry.
