WARREN -- The Quantum LEAPS program, created by a group of county educators at the request of the Trumbull County Department of Jobs and Family Services, was recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor as one of the four best in Region 5. The program was created by a group of county educators at the request of the Trumbull County Department of Jobs and Family Services based upon the belief that a focus solely on academics or work-force development and career awareness could not be successful without inclusion of personal skill development.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Nancy Lorenzi, a Youngstown native who teaches at Vanderbilt University, has been named president-elect of the International Medical Informatics Association for 2003. She will take over as president of IMIA in September 2004, only the second United States representative to serve as president. She is a professor of biomedical informatics, a clinical professor of nursing and the assistant vice chancellor for health affairs at Vanderbilt. Lorenzi graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School and from Youngstown State University. Befor joining Vanderbilt, she was associate senior vice president at the University of Cincinnati.
NORTH JACKSON -- Dave Shively, a manufacturer sales representative with Morrissey Associates in North Jackson, has been awarded the designation of Certified Professional Manufacturers Representative after completing a three-year executive education program. The certification program is offered by the Institute for Professional Advancement in Geneva, Ill. Shively lives in Canfield and has a bachelor's degree in advertising and journalism from Kent State University.
COLUMBIANA -- C. Tucker Cope Jr., a project developer for C. Tucker Cope and Assoc. in Columbiana, has been reappointed to the American Buildings Co. President's Advisory Council as a representative of the Atlantic Region. C. Tucker Cope is a full-service design-build general contractor.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- International Plastics and Equipment Corp., with headquarters in New Castle, Pa., has been certified for registration to the newly revised international quality system standard ISO 9001-2000 through SRI Quality System Registrars. IPEC manufacturers plastic closures for the beverage, dairy and bottled water industries and recently completed a 36,000-square-foot expansion. The company also has a facility in Brewton, Ala.
