Chapter meeting set
Scott Wright from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife will present a program on the peregrine falcon on Tuesday at the monthly meeting of the Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley.
Wright has spent thousands of hours studying the peregrines which nest in buildings on public square in Cleveland. His program will include a slide presentation.

Dave Risley promotedto DOW position
Dave Risley has been selected as the new executive administrator for Wildlife Management and Research for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
Pat Ruble, who currently holds that post, will be retiring Dec. 31. Risley's appointment will be effective on Nov. 18, at which time he will begin working on the transition with Ruble.
Risley, 48, grew up in Barberton, graduated from Barberton High School and has both bachelors and masters degrees in Wildlife Management from Ohio State University.
ODNR Director Speckelected to commission
COLUMBUS -- Sam Speck, director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has been elected to a two-year term as chairman of the board of the Great Lakes Commission, an international agency of states and provinces promoting the wise development, use and conservation of resources in the Great Lakes basin and St. Lawrence River.
Delegates representing governments of the eight Great Lakes states and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec voted unanimously to elect Speck as chairman at the commission's annual meeting, held recently in Cleveland.
Speck was named by Governor Bob Taft in 1999 to head Ohio's delegation to the Great Lakes Commission and was elected vice-chairman of the commission's board in 2000. Currently, he also chairs the water management working group of the Council of Great Lakes Governors.

FIREARMS
Remington safety update
Remington Firearms is offering a safety modification program to remove the bolt-lock mechanism from certain Remington bolt-action centerfire firearms made prior to March 1982.
Firearms that are part of the update include models 600, 660, 700, 721, 722, XP-100 and 40-X.
The program will provide for affected firearms to be cleaned, inspected and the bolt lock mechanisn removed for $20 plus and shipping and handling. Contact a Remington dealer for further details.
