The winners hit 20-22 free throws in the second half to post a 90-77 win over Geneva.
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Malone College took advantage of Geneva College's foul trouble sinking 20-of-22 free throws in the final 20 minutes to post a 90-77 victory in the championship game Saturday of the Geneva Tip-Off tournament.
Tied 40 all at halftime, the contest quickly turned in Malone's favor when Geneva's Stefan Grundberg picked up three fourls in the first four minutes of the second half.
He had scored 19 ;oints in the first half and Malone took advantage of his absence for most of the second half outscoring the Golden Tornadoes 50-37.
Grundberg led all scorers with 25 points, while Malone put six players in double figures, which included 21 points from Tim LaFleur.
Women
BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Geneva College captured the Bluefield College women's basketball tournament Saturday, defeating Kentucky Christian 72-49 in the championship game Saturday.
Geneva (4-1) defeated the host school 70-31 Friday night.
In the championship game, Geneva ran out to a 41-24 halftime lead by shooting 47 percent. Sophomore Crystal Wiley scored a team-high 17 points, while freshman Jen Rawding added 14. Chrissy Valentine was Geneva's other double-figures scorer, with 12.
Geneva forced 25 turnovers in the championship game.
In Friday's victory, Wiley scored a career-high 21 points and had 13 rebounds, and senior renee Freeman added 16 points and six rebounds.
Geneva was won three straight.
