Volleyball teamloses 13th straight
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University's Nickole Kennedy had 12 kills and five blocks in a losing cause as the Penguins were handed a 30-18, 30-21, 30-22 setback by Wright State in a Horizon League volleyball match Friday at Beeghly Center.
Junior Annie Buschur had nine kills and four blocks for the Penguins (8-22, 0-13), who have lost 13 in a row.
Tricia Naseman had 13 kills and 13 digs for Wright State (16-12, 5-8).

Fitch's Tateselected for game
AUSTINTOWN -- Davanzo Tate, a senior at Fitch High School, has been selected to participate in the 2002 Florida Athlete Recruiting Service High School All-Star Football Classic Dec. 30 at Canal Stadium in Oldsmar, Fla.
Tate, a cornerback, has made a verbal commitment to West Virginia.
Mooney's Malienamed to team
YOUNGSTOWN -- Cardinal Mooney High senior Patsy Malie was named to the 2002 Northeast Inland All-District football team.
Malie, a running back for the Cardinals, was given honorable mention in Division IV. He was affiliated with the incorrect school in Thursday's edition.
Boardman icerswin one, tie one
BOARDMAN -- Bob Walla scored three goals and had an assist as the Boardman High ice hockey team defeated Poland 9-3 at the Ice Zone.
Pat Rafeedie added two goals and an assist, while Zach Skook, Frank DoVidio and Jimmy Pipoly each had a goal and an assist. Jeff Lorimer scored and Jason Iorio had two assists.
John Yuhaniak stopped 28 shots.
Brett Pitzulo scored twice for the Bulldogs.
In another game, Boardman tied Fort LeBoeuf 6-6 as Marc Esposito scored with just over a minute to play.
Rafeedie tallied two goals and had one assist. Mike Matter scored once, while Skook and Pipoly had a goal and assist and Jeff Cowen and Arman Olgun each had an assist for the Spartans (1-1-1).
Mooney-Ursulinewins in rout
BOARDMAN -- Behind Phil Colucci's six goals and two assists, the Mooney-Ursuline High hockey team defeated Neshannock 14-0 Friday.
Luke Johnston added two goals and four assists, while Eric Smith had two goals and one assist. Goalie Joe Carothers made 16 saves in the shutout.
Niles nativeearns honor
KENT -- Kent State University's Kevin Jamieson, a Niles native, has been named a second-team selection on the 2002 Verizon/CoSIDA University Division Football Academic All-District IV team.
Jamieson, who has a 3.44 grade point average in biological science, has started all 10 games at right guard this season. He has registered an 89 percent blocking percentage with more than 20 pancake blocks.
During his career, he has played in 38 games with 26 starts. He twice has been named to the Academic All-MAC team and the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Off the field, Jamieson has been a biology lab assistant and has worked at two local hospitals.
Western Reservehires coaches
BERLIN CENTER -- The Western Reserve School District hired Jeff Young of Berlin Center to coach freshman boys basketball and Patricia Amendolea of Boardman to coach freshmen girls. Both will be paid $2,919 for their coaching duties.
Crestview retainsbaseball coach
COLUMBIANA -- The Crestview Board of Education hired teacher Greg Rinyo to continue as varsity baseball head coach. He is a teacher in the district and will be paid $4,500 for his coaching duties, Superintendent John Dilling said.

LOS ANGELES -- A jury awarded sports agent Leigh Steinberg $44.6 million in damages Friday after ruling that his former business partner conspired to steal away his high-profile clients.
The federal court jury upheld a breach of contract claim by Steinberg against David Dunn.
U.S. takes lead
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- The teams of Hale Irwin-Tom Kite and Mark O'Meara-Tom Watson won the final two matches to lift the U.S. to a 3 1/2-2 1/2 lead over The Rest of the World on the opening day of the Warburg Cup.
At one point on the opening day the U.S. team trailed the World team in four of the six foursome matches.
The first to 12 1/2 points wins the second annual event.
LPGA returns to Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS -- The LPGA'S Takefugi Classic is leaving Hawaii for Las Vegas next year and raising its purse to $1.1 million.
The LPGA Tour has not had an event in Las Vegas since the season-ending Tour Championship in 1999.
