CLARK, Pa. -- Clark Borough and South Pymatuning Township are asking the state for a total of $140,000 to help cover the cost of cleanup after Sunday night's tornado that damaged or destroyed more than 100 homes in the two communities.
Clark, which had planned to file an $82,000 grant application Friday with the state Department of Community and Economic Development, upped the final version of its application to $100,000.
South Pymatuning filed a grant seeking $40,000.
Both applications were handed to state Sen. Robert Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, Friday afternoon to hand-deliver to Harrisburg.
Officials said the $140,000 should be enough to cover the costs of overtime as well as labor, machinery and security provided by neighboring municipalities since the tornado struck.
Meanwhile, there was to be an Operation Clark Clean-Up at 8 a.m. today with more than 300 volunteers expected to show up to help clean up the remaining debris.
Items needed
Participants are asked to bring leaf rakes, flat shovels and snow shovels and to wear hats, safety glasses, gloves and boots. Warm coats and rainwear are also advised. Tools should be marked with the owner's name and telephone number.
All volunteers should report to the Clark Volunteer Fire Department at 2798 Winner Road. Transportation will be provided to the work sites.
Some volunteers may be asked to help with food preparation and administrative support. Food donations also will be accepted at the fire hall.
