Salem house fire injures 2 firefighters

SALEM -- Two firefighters were treated at Salem Community Hospital after being injured while battling a house fire.
The blaze broke out between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. Friday at the home of Margaret Sabatino, 934 Morris Ave., fire Capt. Jeff Hughes said Friday afternoon.
No one was home when the fire started. It was reported at about 7:08 a.m. by passing motorists.
Firefighters believe the fire originated in the basement beneath the kitchen of the two-story, wood-frame house.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined, but it's not considered suspicious, Hughes said.
Loss has been set at about $150,000.
Firefighters Lance Ritchie and Sean Mesler were injured while fighting the blaze.
Ritchie suffered burns on his neck. Mesler was burned on the neck and face and was affected by smoke inhalation, Hughes said.
Salem firefighters, who were assisted by Perry Township firefighters, had the blaze under control by about 10 a.m., though some firefighters were still on the scene Friday afternoon to ensure the fire didn't rekindle.
