HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Kennedy Catholic High School will administer a scholarship and placement exam for current eighth-grade pupils interested in enrolling for the 2003-2004 school year at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at the high school, on state Route 62.
The exam is used for scheduling and to determine special-incentive scholarships. For reservations or information, call the admissions office at (724) 346-5531.
Ursuline placement test
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ursuline High School will administer a placement test for all incoming freshmen from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 7 in the cafeteria of the high school, 750 Wick Ave. There is no charge; students should bring two No. 2 pencils.
The test determines placement in honors courses and certain scholarship awards. To register, call the main office at (330) 744-4563. For information, contact guidance counselor Eleanor Price at the same number.
Scholarship dinner
BOARDMAN -- Ursuline High School of Youngstown will host its 16th annual Nick Johnson Scholarship Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center on South Avenue. Guest speaker is ESPN sportscaster Paul Maguire. The event will also feature induction of 15 alumni into the 2002 Athletic Hall of Fame.
Maguire, a 1956 Ursuline graduate, established the scholarship dinner to honor Johnson, his former coach.
Tickets are $75. Proceeds benefit the scholarship, which has raised more than $400,000 for students to attend Ursuline. For the 2002-2003 school year, 32 students each have received a $500 scholarship.

Science bowl at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University has been chosen to host a regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl, a national competition for high school students.
The "Penguin Bowl" is scheduled for March 1 in YSU's Kilcawley Center, where about 12 teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament of written and oral questions about the oceans and Great Lakes. The winning team receives a trip to San Diego for the national competition in April.
The competition, in its sixth year, is managed by the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education. Other regional sites include Miami, Milwaukee, Seattle and Ann Arbor, Mich.
The YSU competition is open to teams from Ohio, western Pennsylvania, western New York and West Virginia. Teams of high school students from the same school or same extra-curricular club should have four members and one alternate and a coach. Deadline to register is Jan. 9.
