YOUNGSTOWN -- "Understanding Our Neighbors: A First Step" is the theme of the 17th Annual Mahoning Valley Association of Churches' Community Interfaith Prayer Breakfast.
The breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Maronite Center. The speaker is Ahmed Younis, author of the book, "American Muslims: Voir Dire (Speak the Truth)." He's a native of Los Angeles who is studying at Washington and Lee School of Law in Lexington, Va.
He has served as director of the Model United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and has published articles on the status of women.

New pastor begins
BOARDMAN -- Evangel Baptist Church will welcome a new senior pastor, the Rev. Randy S. Brunk, at its service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Mr. Brunk, 41, graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn., in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in biblical and theological studies. He received his master of divinity degree in 1989 from Bethel Theological Seminary, also in St. Paul. He was pastor at churches in Colorado and Wisconsin before becoming the senior pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Pittsburgh in 1998.
Grammy-winning artistto sing at local church
CORNERSBURG -- Larry Ford of Lubbock, Texas, will be the featured soloist at 7 p.m. Nov. 24 in Western Reserve United Methodist Church.
He has been a featured soloist on a number of Bill and Gloria Gaither's Homecoming videos, was awarded a Grammy, and has been a pastor for more than 10 years and ministered in music in churches in all of the 48 contiguous states and 23 countries for 20 years. Call (330) 792-5805.
Programs offered
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen will have full-moon walks on the nature trails at Villa Maria Community Center at 9 p.m. Tuesday and Dec. 19. The group will gather in front of the art house. Registration is not required. An offering will be taken.
EverGreen will also sponsor a winter solstice celebration, "Ever Ancient, Ever New," from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Villa Maria Community Center. An offering will be taken.

Spiritual enrichment
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Women's Department of New Galilee C.O.G.I.C. will present a spiritual enrichment seminar at 11 a.m. next Saturday. Speakers from various churches will be presenters. Lunch will follow the seminar. There is a $5 cost. Call (330) 747-7230.
Prayer service, seminarset at Christ Church
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christ Church Presbyterian has two special events scheduled, including a healing prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday. Time will be allowed for personal ministry.
A satellite seminar will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. The topic will be "Timeless Wisdom From Veteran Leaders." Pre-registration is requested. Call (330) 782-2611.
Live Nativity scheduled
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- King's Chapel United Methodist Church will present its ninth annual Drive Thru Nativity from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8. The free event has 10 scenes with live actors and animals depicting the first Christmas. The display is set up around the church's parking. Nearly 100 people are involved in the project. Advent program
COLUMBIANA -- A program on Advent preparation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 24 at St. Jude Church. The program is about focusing on faith before Christmas instead of the holiday's commercialism.
