BETHANY COLLEGE
Amanda Danks of Youngstown has received the West Virginia college's Richard B. Kenney Freshman Leadership Award. The award is presented each fall to a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership and character during their first year at the college, by contributing service to the college community and maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Danks, a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, is now a sophomore majoring in psychology and music.
EDINBORO UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA
Senior accounting major Jennifer Kilgore of Mercer has been selected to serve as secretary-treasurer of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Student Government for the 2002-2003 academic year. Kilgore, a 1999 graduate of Reynolds Junior-Senior High School, is president of the Edinboro Student Government Association. The student government board is made up of presidents of student government groups at the 14 state-owned universities.
MUSKINGUM COLLEGE
Michael Cullar of Youngstown, a communications major, football player and president of the junior class, was selected as homecoming king during the Oct. 11-12 homecoming festivities.
MANHATTAN COLLEGE
Stephanie Haller of Poland has been inducted into the Riverdale, N.Y., college's Epsilon Sigma Pi honor society. The society recognizes seniors who have maintained a 3.4 or higher grade point average for six consecutive semesters with no failures.
UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Dr. Aris Beoglos of Jackson Township and Robert D. Walker of Warren were among four recipients of the university's Nursing Alumni Board Distinguished Nursing Alumni Awards last month.
Beoglos, director of the Center of Excellence in Nursing Education at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, was recognized for outstanding contributions to nursing practice and education. She graduated from the university in 1982 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
Walker, a family nurse practitioner at Lisbon Health Center, was honored for outstanding contributions to nursing practice. He graduated from the university in 1992 with a master of science degree in nursing.
