Collision kills 2 drivers

CHAMPION -- Two people died when a pickup truck driven by a 56-year-old Twinsburg man crossed the median strip on state Route 82/5 bypass and plowed into two cars traveling in the opposite direction.
The pickup truck, a cream-colored Ford F-150, sideswiped a minivan traveling west on the divided highway, then ran head-on into a Buick sedan about 2 p.m. Thursday. The collision forced the car off the right side of the road, rolling it onto its side.
The truck driver, Nathan Trimble of Irish Glen Drive, Twinsburg, and the driver of the Buick, Margaret Stempak, 71, of Ridgeway Place, Newton Falls, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The minivan driver, Shirley Daniels, 43, of Alva Street, Warren, was not injured.
There were no passengers in any of the vehicles, and all the drivers were wearing safety belts, Ohio State Highway Patrol reports say.
The patrol is still investigating what caused the pickup truck to swerve across the highway, patrol officials said.
