Zoning change OK'd
CANFIELD -- Canfield Township trustees approved a zoning change today that will allow CTW Development Corp. of Boardman to construct office buildings, a hotel and a retail center on U.S. Route 224. In a 2-1 vote, trustees extended the boundary for business development from 500 to 1,000 feet along Route 224 between Summit Drive and Interstate 76. Trustees also changed zoning from agriculture to business and also another larger area from agriculture to R-2, which is multifamily. Trustees William D. Reese, chairman, and Paul F. Moracco voted in favor of the measure; Judith M. Bayus opposed it, saying it goes against the Mahoning County Development Land Use Plan. As a selling point, CTW Development says it will construct a golf cart path to its golf course, which will give access to the course to residents of Summit Drive who have opposed the zoning changes. Also, CTW will erect a mound of dirt with trees as a barrier between the Summit residences and its development and drop all lawsuits pertaining to the zone change. Finally, CTW will agree to the path and barrier only if no referendum is filed.
