YOUNGSTOWN -- Antonio Cleveland, 20, of Williamson Avenue was in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center, recovering from gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and left leg.
Cleveland told police he was at the corner of Erie Street and Oklahoma Avenue on the South Side just before 9 p.m. Tuesday when a car pulled up and at least one occupant opened fire. Cleveland made it to a house on Wayne Street to call for an ambulance.
Pleads to drug charges
CLEVELAND -- Andre Mason, 32, of Youngstown and Delaware, Ohio, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Judge Ann Aldrich will sentence him Jan. 23.
Mason, who reached a plea agreement with the government, faces 46 to 57 months in prison, said Steven L. Jackson, an assistant U.S. attorney.
Mason and seven others controlled crack sales in the West Glenaven and Oak Hill avenues area on the city's South Side, the government said. The eight men were indicted in June after an investigation by the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force gang unit. The unit includes officers with the Youngstown Police Department and Mahoning County Drug Task Force and agents from the FBI Drug Enforcement Administration and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
Mason is also scheduled for trial Dec. 4 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on a felonious assault charge.
Food collection effort
YOUNGSTOWN -- Save-A-Lot, American Farms Produce and radio station K-105 have joined together to collect and deliver food to Second Harvest Foodbank for distribution to needy families in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Stark counties.
Through Nov. 21, nonperishable food items may be dropped off at Save-A-Lot stores in Champion, Warren, Columbiana, Wellsville, Alliance, and the Belmont Avenue, Lincoln Knolls and Wedgewood Plaza stores in the Youngstown area.
On Nov. 23, American Farms Produce will pick up the food and deliver it to Second Harvest on Midlothian Boulevard.
Doctor pleads innocent
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Skevos M. Zervos, 76, of Vienna pleaded innocent Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where he faces 30 counts of illegally selling a variety of prescription drugs.
Zervos was originally indicted in 2000 on similar charges, but that case was dismissed last month because the indictment did not specify that Zervos was acting outside the scope of his position as a health-care professional when he administered the drugs.
A new indictment was handed up against him Oct. 31.
Man faces sentencing
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man is in the Mahoning County Jail, awaiting sentencing for stabbing a Canfield High School student during a fight.
Joel Lassalle, 19, of East Philadelphia Avenue pleaded guilty Tuesday in common pleas court to felonious assault. He faces two to eight years in prison or could be placed on probation. Judge Jack Durkin delayed sentencing until after a background check on Lassalle.
Authorities say Lassalle stabbed 17-year-old Jose Morales of North Palmyra Road in the chest during a fight in February at Morales' home.
Green Twp. fire grant
GREENFORD -- The Green Township Volunteer Fire Department will receive a $10,800 grant from The Federal Emergency Management Agency. The money can be used for training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment and personal protective equipment.
Green Township was among more than 19,500 fire departments nationally that applied for funding.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Board of Developers of Youngstown Community School will meet at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the school, 50 Essex St.
