Fire investigated
YOUNGSTOWN -- A fire Tuesday evening at 3114 Hudson Ave. is under investigation. The blaze at 8:15 p.m. began in a bedroom of the two-story wood house, the fire department said. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $5,000.
Steaks, cash stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- A case of steaks, six bottles of liquor and a sizable amount of cash were taken during a break-in sometime Tuesday at Armadillo's Restaurant on Mahoning Avenue, reports show. Police who responded to a burglar alarm at the business found the entrance doors open.

Beaver police contract
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees discussed Tuesday a new contract between the township and its police department. The trustees went into executive session immediately after opening the meeting at 6 p.m. No action was taken. Trustees said the meeting was needed to begin discussing the proposed three-year police contract, which covers the township's 12 full-time officers, including the police chief. The current contract, also a three-year agreement, expires Dec. 31. Part-time police officers are not covered by the agreement.
Meeting on drainage
YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the McGuffey Centre on Jacobs Road to talk about storm water drainage in the area. The meeting is for people living in the McGuffey Heights and Sharon Line neighborhoods, said Councilman Rufus Hudson, D-2nd. A report done by MS Consultants about alleviating flooding will be discussed. Residents can ask questions and make comments. Also, there will be a discussion about development of the city's comprehensive plan.
Suspected marijuana
AUSTINTOWN -- A teacher at Fitch High School told school officials he found suspected marijuana in a folded piece of notebook paper he confiscated earlier this week from two students. One of the students is in ninth grade, and the other is a sophomore. The teacher said he took the piece of paper thinking it was a note the students were passing to each other in class. School officials called police. The ninth-grader told police he found the paper in a restroom.
