YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State's P.J. Mays and Jake Stewart have been named Gateway Football Conference Players of the Week.
Mays, a senior running back, was named as the offensive player of the week after rushing for a game-high 146 yards on a season-high 32 carries, as Youngstown State defeated Illinois State 24-17 last Saturday.
Mays had scoring runs of 4 and 1 yards. It was his second straight 100-yard game as the offense finished with 215 yards rushing.
Stewart, a junior kicker, was the special teams player of the week. He had a 42-yard field goal and three extra points, including a 35-yarder (set up by an offensive penalty) into the wind. He also had a kickoff recovered by YSU that set up the winning touchdown.

Volleyball coachesname all-star teams
HUBBARD -- Maggie Case of Fitch, Katy Jo Mroski of Hubbard, Tealle Hunkus of Girard and Shauna Durig of Jackson-Milton were been selected players of the year for their divisions by the District 1 Volleyball Coaches Association.
Coaches of the year were Ron Slipkasky of Boardman, Chuck Montgomery of Hubbard, Phil Walters of Girard and Pat Keney of Lordstown.
Howland's Theofilosselected by OAC
TWINSBURG -- George Theofilos, a junior placekicker for the John Carroll University football team from Howland High, has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference special teams player of the week.
Theofilos converted all 10 extra-point kicks in the Blue Streaks' 73-0 rout of Otterbein last Saturday, setting a school record.
He is 23-for-24 in extra points and 2-for-2 in field goals for 29 points to rank No. 5 on the team in scoring.
Theofilos tied the school record on Oct. 26 with eight conversion kicks in John Carroll's 59-21 win over Heidelberg.
GJR to play Oak Hill
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two of the top high school boys basketball teams in the country will collide at Youngstown State's Beeghly Center Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Oak Hill, Va., ranked second in the country in the USA Today preseason poll, will meet George Junior Republic in the feature game. George Junior returns two starters from the team that beat Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary last year at Beeghly.
The preliminary game of the doubleheader will match Farrell against Franklin.
Tickets will go on sale later this month.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Greg Norman will rejoin the PGA Tour next year, allowing him to play in as many tournaments as he wants. Norman gave up his PGA Tour membership last year because he played in only 11 events, one short of the minimum.
