NILES -- A 38-year-old Warren man was arraigned this morning in Niles Municipal Court on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and possession of drug paraphernalia in the weekend death of a Youngstown man.
Jail officials confirmed this morning that Clayton Booker was in the Trumbull County jail under $10,000 bond in the death of Kevin J. Dietz, 30, of Steel Street, Youngstown.
Dietz's body was found early Saturday morning on Bundy Road in Weathersfield Township, near the LAS Recycling Landfill.
Scrap metal stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- The owner of a construction company on Youngstown-Poland Road followed a truck Monday after a theft of aluminum scrap and kept updating police with the truck's location. Police caught up to the truck on South Avenue.
The driver, Tyrone Taylor, 44, of East Midlothian Boulevard, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property and driving under suspension. Taylor's passengers, Crystal Jones, 34, of Market Street, and Marcellus Banks, 48, of Bank Street, face charges of receiving stolen property.
Robbed at gunpoint
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 75-year-old Girard man flagged down police just past 12 a.m. today on Market Street near Florida Avenue and told them he was the victim of an armed robbery.
The victim said he'd just gotten out of his car when a man in his 20s approached on foot, pointed a gun and said, "Give me your money." The suspect took $30, a little flashlight and its case.
Lost loved ones
YOUNGSTOWN -- People who have lost loved ones to homicide are invited to a session focusing on overcoming the loss.
Yvonne Pointer-Triplett of Cleveland will speak from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at Oak Hill Renaissance Place on "Pain to Power." Comfort Ministry of Youngstown is sponsoring the event. Tickets are $5 and are available at L.E. Black, Phillips & amp; Holden Funeral Home.
Pointer-Triplett's 14-year-old daughter, Gloria, was murdered in 1984. Pointer-Triplett is the author of "Beyond the Death of a Child."
Truck equipment theft
AUSTINTOWN -- Stereos, speakers and citizen band radios were stolen during the weekend from eight trucks parked at Sabastiani Trucking on Ohltown Road. Dome lights in some of the trucks also had been damaged. The thefts were reported Monday.
Animal league event
WARREN -- Tickets are on sale for the Trumbull County Animal Welfare League's Chinese auction.
Tickets may be bought from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Saturday at the organization's Thrift and Gift Shoppe, The Menagerie, 1010 N. Park Ave.
Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Winners will be drawn at 2 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Menagerie. Winners don't have to be present.
Items available include Christmas decorations and a variety of collectibles.
Proceeds will benefit the league shelter and other programs.
Cleanup canceled
EAST PALESTINE -- City officials have canceled the citywide cleanup for 2003 as a cost-saving measure.
Council discussed offering the service to residents at a nominal fee but opted instead to have the cleanup every other year.
City manager Gary Clark said disposing of unwanted household items costs the city about $6,000 annually.
Finance director Connie Robinson said the city will have about a $300,000 revenue shortfall at the end of 2002, mostly because of decreased income-tax collections.
Mother faces charges
WARREN -- A 23-year-old Oregon Avenue N.W. woman was to appear in court today on charges of child endangering after police found her four children living in a home without running water or gas.
Shania Edmonds was arrested on the charges around 5:40 p.m. Monday and was being held in the Trumbull County jail.
The children were placed with relatives, police said.
