Teen center impresses councilman

EAST PALESTINE -- City Councilman Scott Rauch said there have been no complaints to police about the Community Lighthouse, a community center for teenagers on Market Street, since he and Patrolman Jim Brown talked to Lighthouse staff two weeks ago.
Rauch told city council Tuesday that he and Brown related to the Lighthouse staff that the teen center is needed in the community, but some teens need to be more considerate of downtown shoppers and business owners. He said he and Brown will speak to the teens Nov. 22.
Councilman Barbara Lynch noted that with the high school football team's season ending this weekend with a playoff loss, she was helping boosters wash slogans off storefront windows on Market Street and one of the teens from the Community Lighthouse crossed the street and helped her wash the windows.
Rauch said he had not been in the Community Lighthouse before his recent visit and was impressed.
He said the center needs volunteers and suggested parents whose children frequent the center should volunteer there.
Council members at the Oct. 28 meeting said residents and business owners complained about teens loitering in front of the center, throwing trash and using profanity.
