Computer specialist, builder win Grove City College awards

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College computer specialist Jack D. Kendall and local builder Doug Thomas have been named recipients of the 2002 Grove City College Florence E. MacKenzie Campus-Community Awards.
The awards, named after the late wife of former Grove City President Dr. Charles S. MacKenzie, are given annually to people who have made significant contributions to the campus and community.
Kendall, an ordained Presbyterian minister who has worked for the college for 22 years, was selected for his service to the college as well as the community, including entertaining at hospitals and nursing homes, preaching at area churches and singing at numerous venues.
Most of the technical advances on campus during his tenure have been credited to his efforts.
Thomas, owner of Thomas Construction Inc., was selected for his efforts in improving the lives of college and high school students through classroom participation and his guidance for the campus' physical improvement.
He is a former high-school teacher who volunteers to speak in human relations, leadership and entrepreneurship classes at Grove City and has participated in panel discussions on the environment for the biology department.
He also serves on the advisory board for the new entrepreneurship major.
