Battafarano 50th marked during Mass and dinner



XYOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. James Battafarano, 68 Redfern Drive, renewed their marriage vows during a Mass Oct. 19 at St. Anthony Church and later were guests of honor during a dinner at St. Mark's Orthodox Social Center.
Hosts for the occasion were the honorees' children and spouses, Marianne and Lawrence Hocking of Avon Lake, James and Katherine Battafarano of Fairview Park and Stephen Battafarano of Philadelphia.
The former Anita Criscione and Mr. Battafarano exchanged marriage vows Dec. 27, 1952, at St. Rose Church in Girard.
Mrs. Battafarano was an elementary-school teacher, retiring in 1981 from Girard Board of Education. She is a member of St. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary and Oblate Sisters Cinquanta Club.
Mr. Battafarano worked as the chief engineer at Lombardo Corp. and project engineer at Wean-United Inc. before retiring in 1985. He is a member of K. of C. Council 2935 in Girard, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Italian-American Veterans Centre, both Youngstown, and Liberty Business Association. Mr. Battafarano was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II
The couple are members of St. Anthony Church, where they are lectors and greeters. As members of the parish council, she serves as council secretary and he is chairman of the evangelization committee.
The family circle includes two grandchildren.
