MILWAUKEE -- Youngstown State was handed a 7-0 setback by Butler Thursday in the Horizon League tournament.
Butler (14-5) outshot the Penguins (1-19) 29-1. YSU goalkeeper Caitlin Bestard had 14 saves.

Boardman icers lose
BOARDMAN -- The Boardman Club Hockey team lost to North Allegheny 6-1 in its season opener.
Pat Rafeedie scored the only goal for Boardman, while goalie Chris Collins had 25 saves.
Jeff Kristan of N. Allegheny stopped 23 of Boardman's 24 shots.
Julie Nemerguton all-star team
EDINBORO, Pa. -- Julie Nemergut, a member of the Edinboro (Pa.) University women's cross country team from South Range High, has made the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team.
Nemergut gained the all-league laurels by placing seventh at the PSAC Championships in 24:00.1, while helping the Scots win the team crown with 41 points.
She was one of four Edinboro runners finishing in the top 10. The Scots are ranked No. 18 in the NCAA Division II national rankings.

* GIRARD -- Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson will be a guest of the Ohio Browns Boosters Monday Nov. 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Creekside Golf Dome and not this coming Monday as reported in Thursday's Vindicator sports section.
* CORTLAND -- Lakeview High junior volleyball player Megan Taylor was named third team All-Ohio in Division II. Her name was omitted from an article in Wednesday's edition.

*SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners signed Edgar Martinez to a one-year contract, a day after declining a $10 million option on their veteran designated hitter.
Martinez will make about $4 million next season, plus the $1 million buyout from his previous deal.
* NEW YORK -- Roger Clemens filed for free agency, testing the market while still hoping to re-sign with the New York Yankees.
San Francisco outfielder Tom Goodwin also filed, raising the free-agent total to 152, with 18 more players potentially eligible to file by Monday's deadline. Free agents can start talking contract with all teams starting Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ray Evernham ended his one-year association with Ultra Motorsports, effectively costing driver Casey Atwood a permanent Winston Cup ride.
