Officials honor 6th-grader whose poster won award
CAMPBELL -- Mahoning County Commissioner David Ludt, Mayor Jack Dill and Fire Chief David Horvath recently presented Breonna Carter, a 12-year-old sixth-grader at St. Joseph the Provider School, with a plaque recognizing her win in the regional division of a statewide poster contest.
Breonna is the daughter of Cassandra and Lester Carter.
The contest, open to elementary and special-education pupils, requires participants to design a poster with a severe weather message. Winning entries are then displayed at the Ohio State Fair to assist in education programs throughout the state.
Breonna's poster features children at a lemonade stand and the message, "In case of severe heat wave wear sunscreen, light clothes and drink lots of liquids."
The contest is sponsored by the State of Ohio, Insurance Institute, National Weather Service, Ohio News Network, American Red Cross and the Emergency Management Association of Ohio.
