ST. LOUIS -- Andrew Cassels scored twice and Ray Whitney added a goal and two assists as Columbus snapped St. Louis' nine-game winning streak. St. Louis fell one game short of the club record for consecutive victories set last season. It was the first Blues' loss since they dropped the season opener to Anaheim. At 9-2-1-0, the Blues are off to their best start in franchise history. It was the first home loss for the Blues against the Blue Jackets (1-5-1) in Columbus' three seasons. St. Louis earned a 7-1 victory on Oct. 17 by scoring four power-play goals. It was the first road victory this season for the Blue Jackets, who finished last season with an eight-game road winless streak. Eric Boguniecki scored twice for St. Louis and has eight goals in 11 games.

PHILADELPHIA -- Jamie Langenbrunner scored with 7:43 remaining and New Jersey snapped Philadelphia's six-game winning streak. Seconds earlier, Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur stopped Simon Gagne on a 2-on-1 breakaway. Brodeur made 23 saves for his 56th career shutout, first this season and ninth by a 1-0 margin. The Devils have allowed just 17 goals, fewest in the NHL.
Hurricanes 2, Sabres 0
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jeff O'Neill and Craig Adams scored for Carolina, and Kevin Weekes recorded his first shutout to extend Buffalo's winless streak to seven. O'Neill's fifth of the season late in the first period was his third game-winner in 14 games. Weekes wasn't tested much by one of the worst offenses in the NHL, stopping 26 shots for his ninth career shutout.
Capitals 2, Panthers 1, OT
WASHINGTON -- Jaromir Jagr scored a shorthanded goal at 3:56 of overtime and Olaf Kolzig made 32 saves in his first game back from injury. Robert Lang also scored for Washington. Kristian Huselius tied it 1-1 in the third period for the Panthers.
Canadiens 3, Islanders 0
MONTREAL -- Jose Theodore made 42 saves for his first shutout of the season to lead Montreal. Theodore, the league's MVP last season, got his 16th career shutout despite Montreal being outshot 42-21. Craig Rivet, Jan Bulis and Doug Gilmour scored for the Canadiens.
Rangers 1, Flames 0, OT
NEW YORK -- Brian Leetch scored 51 seconds into overtime to give Dan Blackburn his first NHL shutout. Blackburn, 19, stopped 26 shots to earn his 13th career victory in his 36th game. Chris Drury hit the goal post behind Blackburn on a shorthanded break with less than two minutes to go in regulation. Earlier, Jamie McLennan -- who made 34 saves -- stopped Radek Dvorak with the heel of his skate blade.
Red Wings 2, Bruins 1
DETROIT -- Sergei Fedorov's goal 2:08 into overtime gave Detroit the victory and helped the defending Stanley Cup champions snap a three-game winless streak. Nicklas Lidstrom, who assisted on Fedorov's game winner, tied it 1-1 with 9:43 remaining in the third period with a power-play goal. Joe Thornton gave Boston a 1-0 lead 5:16 into the third period.
Blackhawks 5, Thrashers 0
CHICAGO -- Jocelyn Thibault stopped 17 shots for his second straight shutout, and Tyler Arnason and Mark Bell each had a goal and two assists for Chicago. Thibault's shutout was his third this season and 30th career. Kyle Calder had a goal and an assist. Steve Sullivan and Chris Simon also scored for Chicago.
Sharks 2, Predators 2
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Marcus Ragnarsson scored with 6:07 remaining in regulation as San Jose came back from a two-goal deficit. Mike Rathje also scored for the Sharks. Vladimir Orszagh and Andreas Johansson scored for the Predators.
Coyotes 4, Wild 1
PHOENIX -- Shane Doan scored twice during a three-goal first period as Phoenix handed Minnesota its first road loss. Landon Wilson had a goal and an assist, and Claude Lemieux also scored for the Coyotes. Pascal Dupuis scored for the Wild.
