Jackson-Milton to again seek levies
NORTH JACKSON -- Jackson-Milton Local Schools officials have voted to put two levy renewals back on the ballot after voters rejected them during the Tuesday election.
Treasurer John Zinger said the board of education met this morning and voted to ask for the 0.9-mill permanent improvement levy and the 7.3-mill emergency levy on the ballot during the February special election.
Each is a five-year levy.
"We want to put it on as soon as possible," said Zinger, adding that the levies generate more than $1 million. "It's operating revenue. We need the funds."
Zinger said cost flow in the district will not be affected this fiscal year. If the levies do not pass, however, school programming would be affected next year, he said.
The improvement levy lost 1,168-1,095, by about 3.2 percent in Tuesday's election. The emergency requirements levy lost 1,217-1,024, by about 8.6 percent.
