Parents of terror victim ask not to rename street

SHARON, Pa. -- The family of terrorist victim Rebecca Koborie has asked city council not to go through with plans to rename Trumbull Drive after her.
Koborie, a Sharon native who grew up on Trumbull Drive, was killed in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and city council had proposed renaming the street Becky Koborie Lane.
Her family initially supported the move but has now changed its position in light of complaints from the other residents of the street.
There are only six houses on the street, including the Koborie residence, and the residents of the other five sent council a letter last month asking that the name change not be enacted.
The letter said all of the residents are over the age of 65 and don't want to have to change their legal address on all of their personal papers and documents.
City council initially ignored their request, passing the first of two required readings of an ordinance making the change at its Oct. 24 meeting.
However, President Fred Hoffman said council's position may now change in light of a letter he received from Koborie's parents, John and Julie Koborie, asking council to back off.
The letter said the family wants to maintain peace in the neighborhood and not cause problems for its neighbors, Hoffman said.
Mayor David O. Ryan said he also received a letter from a member of the Koborie family asking that council not rename the street.
