Playoff history: Howland won its first playoff game in school history last week and is 1-2 all-time. Canfield is 3-2 in three appearances and has never made it past the second round of the playoffs.

Tigers scouting report: Howland will pass on offense, but its strength is running. Maurice Smith leads the Tigers with 225 carries for 1,083 yards and 14 touchdowns. James Justice (115-698-3) and Tony Davis (60-390-5) will also carry the ball. QB Chris Settlemire is back from injury. He has completed 28 of 55 passes for 467 yards and four touchdowns. His main target is WR Steve Boyle, who has 11 receptions for 255 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Brandon Alexander has four interceptions and Tony Davis, Mark Faller and Mike Zambelli each have three picks.

Cardinals scouting report: Canfield's offense is deep and diverse. The Cardinals use three running backs: Tim Dewberry (81 carries, 696 yards, 8 touchdowns), Bill DeCola (104-545-13) and Tom Rogers (96-588-9), who suffered a concussion last week but has been cleared to play. QB Leo Sorice can run (75-304-7) or pass (58 of 107 for 978 yards, 8 touchdowns, 5 interceptions). Chase Axelson (23 receptions, 497 yards, 4 touchdowns) is the main wideout target. LB Mike Turjanica leads the team with seven tackles per game and Chaz Carrera averages six per game.

Potters scouting report: Trailing Marietta 7-0 at halftime, the Potters, who are in their third state playoffs rallied to score 20 unanswered points. Justin Campbell is the leading rusher with 414 yards on 87 attempts and five touchdowns. QB Matt Skrinjar has rushed for 315 yards on 108 carries and scored four touchdowns. He has completed 42-of-104 passes for 637 yards and five scores.

Shoremen scouting report: This is the fifth-straight year the Shoremen have reached the playoffs. Avon Lake lost to defending state champion Toldeo St. Francis 40-13 in last year's regional final. Avon Lake has won or tied for the Southwestern Conference title for six straight years. Junior Jon Schroeder led the Shoremen with 1,501 yards on 210 attempts. He scored 21 touchdowns, including two last week in the win over Copley in which he ran for 122 yards on 29 tries. Junior QB Tyler Booher has completed 48 of 81 passes for 831 yards and nine touchdowns. He has thrown seven interceptions. On defense, senior defensive end Jesse Cole has 19 sacks. He earned all-state honorable mention status last year.
DIVISION IV
GIRARD (10-1)vs. CLEVELAND VA-SJ (8-3)
Game time: Friday at 8 p.m. at Chardon Memorial Field.
Last meeting: This is their first game.
Playoff history: Girard is making its fourth playoff appearance and has a 3-3 record. VA-SJ is enjoying its 12th playoff season and owns a 10-10 mark.

Indians scouting report: QB Matt Zuppo has completed 125 of his 200 passes for 1,987 yards. He's thrown 18 touchdown tosses and eight interceptions. Zuppo's favorite target is Dustin Helle, who has hauled in 36 passes for 827 yards and 12 touchdowns. Other receivers are Nick Shirey (31 catches, 392 yards, one score), Mark Grdinich (22 receptions, 274 yards) and Victor Mills (21 catches, 282 yards, two touchdowns). Zuppo leads the Indians' ground game with 665 yards on 62 carries. He's rushed for 10 touchdowns. Grdinich has 538 yards on 208 carries with nine touchdowns. The Girard defense is allowing 2.8 yards per play and 117 yards per game.

Vikings scouting report: QB Mike Cvelbar has completed 78 of 167 passes for 1,132 yards and nine touchdowns. He's thrown six interceptions. Jermaine Jefferson is the main threat out of the Vikings' backfield. He has 1,044 yards on 184 carries in 11 games.
