Letter goes to trustee
CANFIELD -- Township Trustee Judy Bayus says she believes an attorney representing Michal Naffah was trying to use "last- minute scare tactics" by writing her a letter Friday.
Naffah is asking township voters to approve a zoning change today that will allow him to construct a hotel on U.S. Route 224 between Summit Drive and South Raccoon Road. The letter warns Bayus that she would be breaking the law if she circulates a flier containing information she knows to be false.
Bayus helped create a flier that urged opposition to another zoning change in the past.
"I don't know why they challenged the Constitution, but last time I looked, I was allowed to express my opinion," Bayus said.
Naffah responded that he knows Bayus is entitled to her opinion.
"All [the letter is] saying is, don't tell any lies," he said. "We're going to be watching."

Sewer-project action
LORDSTOWN -- Village council members unanimously agreed Monday to pay $9,000 for a license from Norfolk Southern Railway to complete Phase VI of a sanitary sewer project.
The license allows the village to install a 6-inch sewer pipe encased in a 16-inch steel pipe on the railroad's property in the village.
The sewer project was approved by council as an incentive effort to retain the local plant of General Motors. The fee will cover insurance charges and a one-time occupancy fee.
