E. Liverpool lawyer pleads innocent

LISBON -- East Liverpool attorney Carl Joseph King is free on recognizance bonds after he pleaded innocent to charges of assaulting a police officer, a fourth-degree felony; and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
King, 52, of East Sixth Street, appeared Monday before county municipal court Judge Robert C. Roberts. Further hearings have not been set yet.
The Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway patrol said King struck Trooper Jim Oakes on Friday evening at the post. King was there because troopers had arrested the woman in whose car King was riding.
Sgt. Gary Dolak said assaulting a police officer is a fourth-degree felony, while resisting arrest and disorderly conduct are misdemeanors.
Dolak said King and Kim Triner, 38, of Bank Street, East Liverpool, were taken to the Lisbon post Friday evening after Triner was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to control and disorderly conduct.
Dolak said Triner kept trying to leave the post. He said Oakes was trying to prevent Triner from leaving and King tried to shove Oakes. Dolak said King struck Oakes as Oakes was trying to handcuff King.
