SMALL COLLEGES Mount Union routs Marietta to go 8-0
The Purple Raiders amassed 637 total yards in a 56-10 win.

ALLIANCE -- Dan Pugh rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass as Mount Union beat Marietta 56-10 Saturday.
The Purple Raiders (8-0, 7-0 Ohio Conference) rolled up 637 yards of total offense, with 378 coming on the ground. Marietta had 124 yards of total offense.
Pugh scored the first two touchdowns for Mount Union, rushing for a 1 yard touchdown and catching a 14 yard pass from Zac Bruney in the first quarter. Randell Knapp also scored twice, catching a 13-yard touchdown pass from Rob Adamson and returning a kickoff 79 yards for another score.
The Pioneers (2-6, 1-6 OAC) got their only touchdown on a 94-yard kickoff return by Steven Wagner to start the second half.
Adamson finished 14-for-19 for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Besides his touchdown pass to Knapp, he threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Josh Liddell. Mount Union also got a 7-yard touchdown run from Rick Ciccone and a 66-yard touchdown run from Jeff Strauch.
Justin Burton, a West Branch graduate, and Stan Watson, an Austintown Fitch graduate, each had six tackles for the Purple Raiders.

HIRAM -- The Hiram College football team played its best defensive game of the season, but it wasn't enough to lift the Terriers to their first win as Denison posted a victory in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Henry Field.
Josh Jirgens caught five passes for 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Big Red (2-6, 2-3), while freshman running back Tim Anderson gained 73 yards on 25 carries for the Terriers (0-8, 0-5).

ERIE, Pa. -- Darmel Whitfield ran for 132 yards and Al Donadi scored from 1 yard with 2:28 left as Gannon rallied to beat Walsh.
Walsh (7-2) got two late possessions after Donadi's score, but lost the first on downs.
Gannon (5-5) got the ball at the Walsh 39, but turned the ball over on downs at the Walsh 30. Winston Woods threw two incompletions for Walsh, however, and was sacked for a 5-yard loss before time ran out.
Walsh was led by Derek Besgrove, who rushed for 124 yards on 34 carries including the game's first score, a 1-yard run that gave Walsh a 7-0 lead.

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Ben Swallow threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns as Geneva beat Taylor.
Geneva (4-5, 2-3 Mid-States Football Association Mideast League) took advantage of five Taylor turnovers to end a two-game losing streak.
Taylor (2-7, 0-5) has not won a conference game this season.
Aside from the turnovers, the game was balanced with Geneva edging Taylor (2-7, 0-5) with 352 yards of total offense to 350 yards.

Grove City (3-6) held Alfred to 178 yards of offense and 10 first downs to end a four-game losing streak.
Grove City protected the ball rushing for 202 yards and kept the ball for 36 minutes. Ken Roudybush led rushers with 68 yards on 26 carries.

Walther's interception return opened scoring for the Golden Eagles (7-1).
After a scoreless second quarter, Mark Menchetti capped a seven-play, 27-yard drive with a 41-yard field goal. Toombs returned an interception to close out the scoring.
Brockport allowed Thiel (3-6) just 43 yards in offense in the second half -- 27 rushing and 16 passing .
