Arvella Davis Jr., 23, and Michael Reynolds, 19, were both recently charged with their fifth driving under suspension charge. These entries reflect most of their run-ins with the criminal justice system since 1997:
DAVIS
Jan. 31, 1997: Third conviction for driving on a temporary permit without a licensed driver in the car. Former Judge Andrew Polovischak Jr. sentenced him to 180 days.
Aug. 14, 1997: Charged with driving under suspension. Former Judge Patrick V. Kerrigan sentenced Davis to three days, fined him $500, suspended $450, and permitted him to do community service in lieu of the fine. (Court date Oct. 1, 1997).
July 2, 1997: Charged with DUS. Former Judge Louis K. Levy fined Davis $100. (Court date Feb. 20, 1998).
March 12, 1998: Charged with DUS. Polovischak sentenced Davis to 180 days in jail and suspended 60. The 120 days remaining were house arrest. The judge placed Davis on two years' probation and fined him $100. Davis performed community service in lieu of the fine. (Court date Aug. 11, 1998).
June 11, 1999: Charged with loud music. Former Magistrate Lynn Sfara Bruno fined Davis $200 and permitted him to perform community service in lieu of the fine. (Court date June 16, 1999).
Nov. 12, 2000: Charged with DUS. The charge was reduced and Judge Robert P. Milich gave Davis 60 days in jail, suspended it all, fined him $100 and placed him on two years' nonreporting probation. The judge ordered Davis to obtain a valid license. (Court date Jan. 18, 2001).
July 3, 2001: Charged with loud music. Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. fined Davis $250. (Court date July 9, 2001).
Oct. 23, 2001: Charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs and bond set at $25,000 cash/surety. Case bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury. Pending.
Dec. 15, 2001: Charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs and bond set at $10,000 cash/surety. Case bound over to a grand jury. Disposition: Indicted Jan. 17. Pretrial is Monday before Judge Robert G. Lisotto of common pleas court.
Feb. 13, 2002: Charged with trafficking in drugs and bond set at $15,000 cash/surety. Case bound over to a grand jury. Disposition: Indicted March 14. Pretrial is Monday before Lisotto.
March 6, 2002: Charged with driving with expired or unlawful plates. Fined $10 by Magistrate Anthony Sertick Jr. (Court date March 13).
Oct. 23, 2002: Charged with DUS (fifth time) and felony drug-abuse crack cocaine. Bond set at $10,000 cash/surety on the drug charge and $1,500 on the DUS. The drug charge was bound over Friday to a grand jury. Davis paid his car insurance after the DUS was filed and his license was restored. The charge was dismissed Friday.
REYNOLDS
Aug. 4, 2001: Charged with DUS and loud music. The DUS was reduced and Judge Milich fined Reynolds $25 for it and $100 for the loud music. No jail time was imposed. (Court date March 15, 2002).
July 21, 2001: Charged with DUS and loud music. Judge Milich sentenced Reynolds to 180 days in jail, suspended 170 days and placed him on three years' probation for the DUS. Fines were $100 on each count. (Court date March 26, 2002).
Nov. 29, 2001: Charged with DUS. Combined with above. Fine was $100. (Court date March 26, 2002).
March 15, 2002: Charged with loud music, his third. Judge Milich treated this as Reynolds' second offense, sentenced him to 60 days in jail and suspended 50. Fine was $500. (Court date March 26, 2002).
Feb. 26, 2002: Charged with felony possession of drugs and bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety. The case was bound over to a grand jury on April 12. Disposition: Indicted May 2. Pending before Judge Jack Durkin of common pleas court.
April 26, 2002: Charged with drug-abuse marijuana. Judge Milich sentenced Reynolds to 180 days in jail and suspended 120 days. (Court date Oct. 2).
June 2, 2002: Charged with loud music, his fourth. Failed to show for trial on Oct. 2 and warrant was issued. Case reset to Wednesday in Judge Douglas' court.
Aug. 7, 2002: Charged with DUS. Judge Douglas sentenced Reynolds to 90 days in jail, suspended 23, and gave him credit for 67 days, although when sentenced, Reynolds had only served 14 days in jail. The judge fined Reynolds $100 and placed him on a one-year probation. (Court date Oct. 15).
Aug. 23, 2002: Charged with DUS (fifth time), squealing tires and no seat belt. Bond set at $2,000. Pleaded innocent and trial set for Nov. 15 before Judge Douglas.
Oct. 23, 2002: While in jail, served with a warrant for failure to appear in court on his fourth loud-music charge.
