RUBBLE: Above, a firefighter emerges from the rubble after an earthquake hit San Giuliano di Puglia, near Campobasso, in southern Italy. An elementary school build-ing collapsed during Thursday's quake, kill-ing at least 24 children and two teachers. The overall death toll was reported to be 28. At right, saddened residents walk past homes ruined by the earthquake. The region was jolted by several aftershocks, including two temblors that sent up clouds of dust and forced panicked residents into the streets.
