High School Rock Offseeks student bands
CLEVELAND -- Tune your guitars and crank up your amps -- it's time to enter the seventh annual High School Rock Off. The contest for young, unsigned bands in Northeast Ohio will begin Jan. 3 at Odeon Concert Club in the Flats district.
Get entry forms at www.cleveland.com/rockoff. Send the form, a three-song demo tape and a $50 fee to Clear Channel Entertainment by Dec. 6. (Bonus: Bands that register by Nov. 15 will receive four tickets to the Seether concert Nov. 19 at the Odeon.) Contestants must be high school seniors or younger.
The contest will begin with 72 bands. There will be six preliminary rounds, and three bands will advance to the Final Exam, or final round, Feb. 1. All finalists will record a song for a High School Rock Off CD. The winning band will receive $500 in cash, new musical equipment and an opening-act gig at the Odeon. The winning band's school band program will also receive $200.
Not musically inclined? There's also a High School Rock-Off CD artwork contest (deadline, Dec. 6) and a new music video category (deadline Jan. 20) for the most creative, best-edited videos on VHS, DVD or CD-ROM. See the Web site for details.
