Robber hurts clerk during theft

STRUTHERS -- A robber brandishing a handgun injured a video-store clerk and emptied the cash drawer before making his getaway in a car with a woman and child earlier this week.
According to police reports, a man entered Anthony Cocca's Videoland, 466 Youngstown-Poland Road, just before 6 p.m. Monday, pointed a semiautomatic handgun at the clerk and demanded the money in the register.
When the clerk hesitated, the gunman jumped over the counter and hit the clerk in the head with the gun, knocking him to the floor. After the clerk handed over the cash, a witness told police the gunman left the store, walked around the building and got into a white four-door driven by a Hispanic woman. The witness said there was also a little boy in the car.
Witnesses said the gunman was Hispanic, had a thick Spanish accent and was wearing green shorts and a green shirt. He got away with $200 to $220.
The clerk was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center after complaining of a severe headache and dizziness.
