DIVISION I
Who: Boardman (23-3) vs. Canton GlenOak (16-10).
When: Friday, 5 p.m.
Where: Thurmon Munson Memorial Stadium, Canton.
How to get there: Take state Route 62 from Canfield through Alliance and Canton to I-77 south. Take Exit 103 (Ohio route 800/Cleveland Avenue). Follow the curve of the exit ramp to the right onto Cleveland Avenue southbound. Turn left at the second traffic light (Mill Road). Turn left on Mill and go one block to the stop sign. Turn left, stadium is on the left.
Boardman scouting report: In last week's final state poll, Boardman was selected the top team in the state. The Spartans cruised through district play, shutting out East Liverpool, 10-0, and defeated North Royalton, 5-1.
Canton GlenOak scouting report: In district play, GlenOak defeated Massillon jackson, 5-1, and Uniontown Lake, 5-3. The Boardman lineup has: Tom Zetts, pitcher; Ryan Vaughn, catcher; Andrew Good, third base; Matt Repec, shortstop; Mike Krieger, second base; Steve Franklin, first base; Mark Sikora in left; Giancarlo Silvestri in center and Sean Curry in right. Sean Weyant will be the designated hitter for Franklin.
Next: Saturday at 1 p.m., The winner will play Cuyahoga Falls (18-11) or Shaker Hts. (17-6).
DIVISION II
Who: Poland (21-4) vs. Tallmadge (22-5).
When: Friday, 2 p.m.
Where: Cene Park, Struthers.
Poland scouting report: Coach Steve Rohan's Bulldogs edged Chaney 6-5 and walloped Canfield 9-3 in district play. Junior John Hay (8-1) will take the mound for Poland. His catcher is senior Shane Davis. The Bulldogs' infield has John Koval at first base, Dan Bertolini at second, Jon Habuda at shortstop and Sean Clayton at third base. Outfielders are Brandon Hardin in left, David Koval in center and Anthony Fuller in right. Brandon Hardin will be the designated hitter for Hay.
Tallmadge scouting report: In Jefferson district play, Tallmadge blanked Mentor Lake Catholic, 3-0, and ousted Jefferson, 11-7.
Next: The winner will play Canton South (23-2) or Kenston (19-7) Saturday at 1 p.m. for the regional title.
DIVISION III
Who: Warren JFK (15-7) vs. Cuyahoga Falls CVCA (16-6).
When: Friday, 5 p.m.
Where: Schroeder Field, Massillon (next to Paul Brown "Tiger" Stadium.
How to get there: Follow Interstate-76 West to Interstate-77 South. Exit onto U.S. 30 West. Exit at Richville Drive SW and turn right. Turn right onto 16 Street SE. Turn right onto Harsh Ave. SE. The baseball field is located off Harsh Avenue.
Warren JFK scouting report: In one Struthers district, the Eagles defeated Cardinal Mooney, 2-1, and Brookfield, 6-1. The JFK pitchers are Kevin Costello and Mike Ellis. The lineup has: Chriss Cannon; catcher; Eliot Musick, third base; Chris Macali, shortstop; Mike Ambeliotis, second base; Tony Campana, first base; Orion Knepp in left; Gary Gerba in center; and John DiChristofaro in right. Chris Williams is the designated hitted for Cannon when Costello pitches and for Ellis when he's on the mound.
CVCA scouting report: In the other Struthers district, CVCA defeated Campbell, 2-1, and Girard, 3-2.
Next: The winner will play either Elyria Catholic (14-5) or Cleveland Villa Angela St. Joseph Saturday at 1 p.m. for the regional title.
DIVISION IV
Who: Maplewood (13-13) vs. Western Reserve (21-6).
When: Friday, 5 p.m.
Where: George Day Field, Elyria High School, Elyria
How to get there: Take Ohio Turnpike to Elyria Exit 8. Take state Route 57 south, staying in right lane. Proceed to fourth light, then turn left onto Lake Avenue. Road changes to West Avenue in town. Turn left on 3rd Street. At first traffic light, turn right onto Middle Avenue. Go to the fourth light which is a three-way intersection. Stay on Middle Avenue and watch for baseball fields entrance on the right.
Western Reserve scouting report: In the Akron district, the Blue Devils defeated Elyria Open Door Christian, 3-1, and Independence, 3-2. The Blue Devils are making their first regional appearance in the seven years the school has had a varsity program. Jason Young (3-3) will start Friday's game. His catcher will be Andrew Lenhart. The infield has Nick Sanders at first base, Kyle Kekic at second, Chris Mountain at shortstop and Luke Srock at third base. In the outfield will be Jake Zatchok in left, Ben Martin in center and Adam McDougal in right. Brandon Keck will be the designated hitter for Young and pitch Saturday is Western Reserve advances. Paul Henderson, who has been the Bleu Devils' coach since the program's inception, said earning the regional berth is "something every coach hopes for. These kids have dedicated themselves to get here and the satisfaction I get is that these kids get to see what can come form hard work." About Maplewood, Henderson said their record "may not be a fair indication of their talent because they knocked off a very good Fairport Hrbor team. They are not anybody to be overlooked."
Maplewood scouting report: In the Euclid district, Maplewood defeated Newbury, 5-4, and Fairport, 3-2. Mitch Shipman will take the mound for the Rockets. His catcher is Bryan wayne. The Maplewood infield features Bob Odvar at third base, Bruce Wayne at shortstop, Jake Abbott at second base and Brian Hivick at first base. The outfield has Joe Young in Left, Bryan White in center and Andy Thorton in right.
Next: The winner will play either Windham (15-5) or Sandusky St. Mary's (15-8) for the regional title Saturday at 1 p.m.
